12/04/2009 (Chinook) – Our initial visit to Nichols Pond Park.  What made this park unique was its mix of history and heritage that is scattered throughout.  The Wetland Overlook and Indian Springs areas are very short but offer glimpses of what was the 1615 battle between the Huron and Oneida Indian tribes battled.  This excavated area has several historical markers throughout the park.  Indian Springs has a fairly steep wooden staircase that descends to the overlook.  The Deep Woods trail is the only significant trail at 1.2 miles round trip.  The trail is easy to walk and offers markers on the trees, but at the end of the trail, the loop back can be confusing.  What a great place to bring the family for a picnic and those more serious hikers can stop by Oxbow Falls which is only a couple of minutes away.  Close by is the Fenner Wind Power Project which seems fitting as these turbines are seen from the park in the distance.

Oxbow Falls feature two nice waterfalls and a well groomed trail.  A unique feature of this park is the 18-hole frisbee course.  The park also features a few moderate geocache hides.
