Verona Beach State Park is a great family friendly environment.  The park itself is located on the eastern shore of Oneida Lake and encompasses 1,700 acres of land.  They have an outstanding beach with several amenities such as showers, pavilions, food and playgrounds.  The also allow fishing, ice fishing, hunting (with special permit), skiing, snowmobiling and a bridle path.

What many people are not aware of, is the amount of hiking trails that are also available at the park.  In addition to the trails located from the main park entrance (to left of Route 13 North), there are also woodland trails that are accessible directly across from the main entrance on Route 13.

It was a wet an overcast day to be on this trail.  The trailmarkers on the trees are ample throughout the entire trail, but there was flooding in several of the low spots.  There is no elevation climbs to speak of and this 1.2 mile trail was very easy.  Even though the majority of the leaves have fallen, there were still some very beautiful spots along the way.  This trail is a mushroom lover’s dream.

This was a great visit and well worth the trip.  You don’t have to look very hard on the web to see several photographs of the park, some of which are extremely well done.  Finding an actual trail map is another thing.  We did manage to travel one of the trails, a moderate one at that, however I’m not sure about trail name or length.  I’ll have to return with the GPS.
