The Old Forge Camping Resort offers a very nice nature trail.  The trail skirts around the camp’s private Lake Serene.  Although well marked, the trail does have portions that require stepping up rocks.  For this reason, I’ve marked the trail easy to moderate.  We made it with our dog easily.

Although this site is a little more expensive than the state parks, the sites are well maintained and offer a lot of recreational opportunities.  We actually attended a family wedding that took place at the site.  The tent sites are little closer together than the cottage we stayed in, but the cottages themselves were very nice.

Green Lakes State Park is named for the two glacial lakes within the park.  It’s well worth reading the history on this unique park.  In addition to the hiking, biking and swimming, the park also offers a golf course.  Recently there has been a lot of discussion about the deer and Lyme disease.  A recent article in the Syracuse Post Standard was published on August 2nd.

Deer Creek Mash is another New York State Wildlife area and is part of New York State’s only freshwater dune system.  The park map (above) shows the other areas.  Bring the bug spray and your swim suit for this one.  The trail is paved in most areas and easy walking.  Respect the dunes and stay to the trail.
