11/27/2011 (Marylee, AdvGirl) – Our visit started at the Edgar Allan Poe Museum. Â After visiting the museum, we walked south and entered the canal walk from outside the Virginia Holocaust Museum. Â Under the Norfolk Railroad, a trail extended east, but trail details are not included in this post. Â To the west, we connected with the Canal Trail. Â The trail weaved along the James River down to Brown’s Island. Â There are several parking and access points along the way. Â The footbridge to Brown’s Island connects to the Richmond National Battlefield Park Civil War Visitor’s Center. Â We did not visit the battlefield on this trip, but have plans to visit next time we’re in the area.
